The Old Manager for a Player Trade

The Marlins suck.  But they are moving into a brand new ballpark, renaming themselves the Miami Marlins and getting (terrible) new jerseys.  So they need something to get the fans excited.

A normal team would make a big free agent signing, but this is the Marlins we are talking about.  So they go out and make a trade…Ozzie Guillen, the manager.  The deal was rumored to be for everyone favorite tweeter, Logan Morrison, but now it appears that it will just be for some minor league players.

So what does the mean for the Marlins? From a PR standpoint, its great.  Ozzie is an exciting and passionate guy and he will get the community excited about the team.   And while he may say some dumb stuff every now and then, I think overall it will be a positive move that could help increase interest.

On the field? Well, the Marlins will probably still suck.  But Ozzie is a great manager and I think he can improve this team.  He is also one of only a couple managers, who really runs his bullpen efficiently (i.e., using the his pitchers in the biggest situations, not just using the same setup guy and closer every time there is a lead).

I think Ozzie will bring some excitement to the NL East and he will get the Marlins playing better baseball than we have seen in years past.  But this a tough division and I am not sure the players are good enough, no matter who is at the helm.

So what do you guys think about this?  Would you want your team trading for a manager?
